Campagnolo Record Crank Sets with Two Rings:
  • A perfect blend of modern technology and old world craftsmanship.
  • Campagnolo's finest and lightest crank set; weighs just 500 grams with carbon arms. The 10 speed version with alloy arms tips the scales at just 632 grams.
  • Designed with finite element analysis (FEM). Alloy arms are cold drop forged for strength and performance. The carbon arms significantly reduce weight while increasing rigidity and performance.
  • The outer chain ring bolts directly to the crank arm. This reduces weight and increases rigidity.
  • Both the alloy crank arms and chain rings are precisely machined, polished and anodized for a beautiful and long lasting finish. The carbon arms are clear coated over a natural carbon finish.
  • Low profile design requires a 102 mm Campagnolo or Phil Wood bottom bracket.
  • Except for graphics, the alloy arms are unchanged from 1996 to the present. Carbon arms were new in 2002 and improved in 2004.
  • Record/Chorus Carbon Crank

  • The x-ray photo above shows how technologically advanced Campagnolo's carbon arms are. The image reveals that the crank set is made entirely out of structural carbon and is not simply a carbon-fiber-coated aluminum frame. The only elements that are not in carbon composite material are the three white patches. These patches are respectively the light-alloy inserts that house the bottom bracket, the chain ring arm bolt and the pedal axle.
  • Thanks to the Multidirectional Carbon Fiber technology, combined with unidirectional fibers, the Campagnolo Carbon crank set distinguishes itself for its resistance to static loads and superior fatigue and torsional strength.
  • You may retrograde a 10 speed crank to 8/9 speed by simply adding a Le Tour 0.4 mm chainring spacer to every chainwheel bolt behind the outer 10 speed ring.
  • Both chainrings are hard anodized and Teflon impregnated for longer wear. The 10 speed outer ring is machined .4 mm thinner than an 8/9 speed outer ring, so it can sit closer to the inner ring and accommodate the narrower, 10 speed chain.
  • The outer ring has steel chain pick up pins and machined ramps for quick and smooth shifting. The chain ring Bolt Circle Diameter (BCD) is 135 mm for the stanadard road crank. The compact crank uses a propriatary bolt circle diameter.
  • Record 10 speed carbon armed cranksets come with 170, 172.5 and 175 mm arms and with the following chain ring combinations: 39-53. The compact cranks come with a 34-50 chain ring combination.
  • Record 10 speed alloy armed, 135 BCD, cranksets come with 170, 172.5, 175, 177.5 and 180 mm arms and with the following chain ring combinations: 39-53.
  • The alloy arm chain ring bolts are machined from a 7000 series aluminum alloy and are beautifully anodized in satin silver. Carbon arm Record cranks use T30, black, Torx head chainwheel bolts.
  • Although not pictured, each crank also comes with two 8 mm allen head bottom bracket bolts. You will still need a crank remover to take the installed arms off of your bike.
  • We suggest using a Park Torque Wrench, for the most accurate installation. Campagnolo recommends the following torque specifications:
Alloy Chain Ring Bolts - tighten to 7.1 to 8.4 Newton Meters (N.m) or 5.8 to 6.0 foot pounds.
Crank Arm Fixing Bolts - tighten to 32.0 to 38.0 Newton Meters (N.m) or 23.6 to 28.0 foot pounds.
Campagnolo Pro-Fit series pedal - tighten to 40.0 Newton Meters (N.m) or 29.5 foot pounds.

  • Made in Italy by Campagnolo and backed with a three year warranty.

8, 9 and 10 speed Crank set Compatibility Issues

8/9 speed and 10 speed rings - Unlike Shimano, Campagnolo did not change their crank set or chain rings when they went from 8 to 9 speed. Thus, all Campy 8 or 9 speed cranks may be used with 8 or 9 speed cassettes and chains.
To convert any Campy 8 or 9 speed crank to 10 speed all you need to do is replace the outer chain ring. Bolts, arms and the inner ring are all the same for 8, 9 or 10 speed.

Cassettes - All 8/9 speed Campagnolo crank sets will work perfectly with ALL Campagnolo 8 or 9 speed cassettes. The newer Ultra Drive and older Exa Drive cassettes are equally compatible with 8/9 speed crank sets. You may also use these cranks with Shimano 8 and 9 speed cassettes. However, for best results with Shimano cassettes we recommend using an 8 or 9 speed Rohloff chain.
All 10 speed Campagnolo crank sets will mesh well with all Campagnolo 10 speed Exa or Ultra Drive cassettes.

Chains - Campagnolo cranks and chain rings are designed for use with Campagnolo chains. Use the appropriate 8, 9 or 10 speed chain to match your cassette. The SRAM chains are excellent for use with 8 or 9 speed Campagnolo or Shimano cassettes and Campagnolo 8/9 speed crank sets.

Bottom Brackets - Campagnolo cranks require bottom brackets that have a Campagnolo taper. Only Campagnolo and Phil Wood make Campy taper bottom brackets. Phil Wood bottom brackets are lighter and more durable than the Campagnolo ones. Not surprisingly, they cost more too. For a detailed discussion of Campagnolo bottom bracket tapers see our Bottom Bracket sidebar below.

Bottom Bracket Compatibility - length and tapers

All cranks must be matched with a specific length bottom bracket spindle. Triple cranks or frames with oversize seat tubes require slightly longer bottom bracket spindles.
Shimano and almost every major bottom bracket maker have traditionally used the same spindle end cross section of 12.9 mm and two degree taper. Campagnolo uses the same two degree taper but has a smaller starting cross section of 12.7 mm.
A Shimano crank arm will bottom out on Campagnolo spindle. A Campagnolo crank arm will not draw far enough onto a Shimano spindle.
Phil Wood now produces both Campagnolo and Shimano taper bottom brackets in a wide variety of lengths. Phil bottom brackets are exceptionally well made and usually last for 30,000 miles without maintenance.
